Released July 17
NCARB has updated the ARE 5.0 Guidelines to include the latest information and policies. The document now reflects the latest details related to rescheduling fees, exam accommodation applications, and American Institute of Architects (AIA) resources. Learn more about the changes below and access the latest version on our website.
Exam Accommodations
Applications for both Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and English as a Second Language (ESL) accommodations for the ARE are now available through My NCARB. To apply for either type of accommodation, please navigate to the Exams tab of your NCARB Record. You will be required to upload supporting documentation. The ARE 5.0 Guidelines includes detailed steps for requesting exam accommodations through the online forms.
Rescheduling Fees
NCARB is implementing a new policy for Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) rescheduling fees. Starting August 1, 2023:
- The first time a candidate reschedules a previously scheduled exam appointment, it will be free
- The second reschedule of the same appointment will cost $50
- The third and all subsequent reschedules of the same appointment will cost $100
The ARE 5.0 Guidelines now reflects the updated policy, which is intended to ensure that all candidates have access to exam appointment times.
AIA Resources
The AIA now provides free access to contract documents and other exam-related resources through My NCARB. To find these resources, log in to your NCARB Record and navigate to the “Quick Links” section of the Overview tab or the “ARE Resources” section of the Exams tab. Instructions for accessing these documents are now provided in the ARE 5.0 Guidelines.
Other Changes
As previously announced, NCARB has retired both the Approved Test Prep Provider program and the $50 rebate for candidates scheduling an online proctored appointment for the first time. These sections have been removed from the ARE 5.0 Guidelines. The document also now reflects a clarification on the time frame for receiving score reports—all score reports will be delivered within seven days of your exam appointment.
