(Lack of) Customer Service
Having just completed the last division of my exams on Friday, I received an email saying “you’re on your way” acknowledging that I had completed the ARE. The email came with a fun little additional note though: “you may need to fulfill additional requirements”. Aware that I have a four year degree (a bachelor of science - studying architecture at an accredited university but bankrupting myself before being able to pursue a professional degree at said university). I’m applying for licensure in Wisconsin since it allows me - or at least I thought - to get licensed with these “shortcomings”. I have completed over 8,000 hours through AXP (only half of which counted since it was logged “too late”).
So one could imagine my frustration that THIS would be the ONE WEEK when NCARB’s customer service cannot be reached by phone, and is therefore likely overwhelmed and inundated by online submissions. I have also reached out to the state licensing board which is also backlogged due to Covid staffing shortages and provided an unhelpful response by suggesting I contact NCARB.
So. In an effort to sound like an impatient, selfish millennial brat over here, having waited 12 years between schooling, interning, studying, testing, and dreaming, the idea of feeling like I’m no closer to my license thanks to a vague automated email from NCARB, waiting to hear back from someone seems painful. So if any of you have had a similar experience or can elaborate on the cryptic “may need to fulfill additional requirements” I would appreciate any insight to alleviate the anxiety. Thank you!

NCARB hasn't been answering the phones for at least the past three weeks. They've merely had an automated message telling you to email...which may take anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks for a response.
I wouldn't read too much into the 'additional requirements' though. The hard part is done. Enjoy the relief of having gotten over the hump.
