Agreed.  I wish that NCARB had selected a stylus mouse instead at the very least...  It seems cruel for an architect to not be granted a pencil.

    Appolonia,

From my experience with the whiteboard, try to use the pencil tool as little as possible. For example, type text into your notes, use rectangle tool to draw a rectangular site, use line tool to draw straight lines, etc. this should save you a lot of time and energy during the test. I would suggest you to practice using on the demo test first. I passed all my tests using this technique.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,

I took the new practice exam, and the whiteboard is even worse than I thought. Trying to use it on the case studies while also switching between references while trying to remember key details, resizing windows, resizing text, trying to make sure I don't miss all the little details of the confusing questions, making sure I don't make small mistakes, while the clock ticks is incredibly nerve racking. I found myself trying to do everything in my head because it was just so confusing to switch around. These exams, with this software, are an embarrassment. ARE candidates have been complaining about whiteboard for over a year.

If I fail, it'll be because of the whiteboard. But that's good news for NCARB because I have to shell out another $235.

Haven't needed to draw anything, so I type out the equations.

I found out the hard way the first time I used it during an exam is that if you don't click out of the text box, it will erase that note on whatever page you left open on the whiteboard when you go to the next questions. After typing up whatever you need, switch to the pointer and click out of the text box. Then you'll have that throughout the exam (helpful if you want to come back to a problem for which you already typed out some calcs/notes).

Still horribly time consuming though. I'm aware our industry isn't at the forefront of software/programming innovation but this is just embarrassing. I'd rather use Paint.

At least they should offer a touchscreen or digital pad with a stylus.
