Beginning my Licensure Journey: Where to find used books for ARE 5.0
Howdy!
I am beginning my licensure journey and was curious where I could find used books?
There are 42 books listed under references in the ARE5.0 Handbook, is it necessary to study all these books in their entirety? Or do most applicants use study guide textbooks/web services to get the information they need for each exam?
If anyone has any resources on where I could get used study materials for cheaper please let me know.

If you want print books, it can get $$$. A lot of free books and resources are available online, but you probably own 1/2 of the books from architecture school.
The main books you need are: AHPP, Architects Studio Companion, Ballast Exam Review ($$), Graphic Standards, Fundamentals of Building Construction, and Building Construction Ill. Sun, Wind and Light is helpful too. And you need the AIA contracts (those are free).
I only read 3 books cover-to-cover to pass, but one of them was very long. Message me for more details.

I did my best to study on a budget, like you, because I could not afford to buy all the suggested resources.
I do recommend purchasing the resources which will be valuable to you in your career. Resources like the AHPP, and Building Construction Illustrated.
I found a lot of books on sites like half price books, and thrift books.
Like Rebekka, I too have a guidebook that recommends what you actually will need and where to get them.
and MY BIGGEST RECOMMENDATION - REACH OUT TO PEOPLE - find other people who are studying, contact your local AIA chapter and see if they have them, and CHECK YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY - where I found many of the books I needed through inter library loan.

Our local AIA Chapter had a lending library. Join an IDP committee if your chapter has one. Talk with Classmates and co-workers taking the exams. some firms have a lending library. Ching's Building Construction Illustrated and Visual Dictionary of Architecture are great books to own. shop around on the web. I have gotten the best prices from textbook websites. used book stores may have some resources as well.
