required insurances for the contractor by AIA docs
Can someone clarify for me which insurances are required by the contractor?
I read they are...workers comp, commercial general liability, automobile, and contractual liability?
or is it employer's liability?
and to clarify, professional liability insurance is only required for architects, not contractors right?
architect's are required to have general liability as well, but is that different from "commercial general liability"?

Frank,
According to AIA 101 Exhibit A the contractor is required to carry:
1. Commercial General Liability
2. Automobile Liability
3. Workers compensation insurance
4. Employers Liability insuranceYes Professional Liability is only required for Architects and consultants.
I understand your confusion with the last question. Sometimes it’s called General Liability, sometimes it’s called Commercial General Liability but it’s the same thing. Also, remember the contractor is required to name the owner, architect and architects consultants as additional insureds under their Commercial General Liability policy.
