Prometric Online Proctoring complete failure
Let me start off by saying what an absolute joke the online testing software is. Going into the exam I was actually quite excited to use the new software. I left after suffering the most miserable testing experience of my life. I scheduled the PDD exam at 7:30am. All system checks were a go and internet connection was solid. My 1000mb hard wired internet connection was performing as expected on my new laptop. No issues with dropped connections for the last year of using the service. I first waited for a proctor for nearly 25min. Looking around the room wondering if my system was working. After connecting I went through the 15 min of the routine security checks. This was fine and to be expected. Right as the exam is about to start comes System Crash #1. What do you do? Start allllll over. Repeat entire process. Finally start exam around 9:15am. I get through about 20 questions. Initiate Crash #2. Start process over. Again waiting for about 20min for a proctor to come online. This time I get to the case studies. Crash #3. Repeat process. Another 20-30min of waiting and answering questions. THEN with one single question left, comes Crash #4. Anyways. You get the picture. Each crash came with error BB02020. Should have finished the exam a little shy of noon and ended up finishing around 3pm with my heart racing and my hands shaking from anxiety and frustration. How is this ok?? I can see in these forums that there are many that have experienced the same issues.
Overall I’ll never use the online proctoring again. Even without technical issues, the test software is junk. Why the heck are architects supposed to use an online white board to take notes and perform somewhat complex math problems? Is it really an issue to have a simple piece of paper and a pencil? Talk about making a simple process unnatural and complex.
Save yourself the headaches and frustration. Stick with taking the exams in the testing centers. At least they’re reliable and you can expect a fairly routine experience.
I wish the best to all those taking your exams. Just keep focusing on the light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately, testing in the Prometric center was no better for me. I took PPD and it crashed 8 times, requiring restarts (each eating about 5-10minutes). I was moved to three different computers. It also froze about 6 times. Each time it froze, it was trying to "reconnect" but I could tell the time was still ticking down. The proctor told me there was nothing they can do about the lost time. Unfortunately, I didn't pass but NCARB did offer me a free seat credit, however I still have to wait 60 days to retake the test. I'm so stressed about trying again and failing with the same technology issues!
