Automatic Sprinklers
In which construction type are automatic sprinklers required? I've searched through the IBC and the internet and cannot find a straightforward answer.

My understanding and of course correct me if I am wrong practically they are not required for any type of construction , however they are a lot of advantages if you are decide to use automatic sprinklers like more sqf TABLE IBC 506.2 or more floors /height IBC TABLE 504.3 and of course lowering the insurance

IBC 903.2 describes the conditions in different occupancy groups that will require automatic sprinkler systems. Section 420.5 requires sprinkler systems in groups R and I-1. There are no specific requirements to provide sprinkler systems by construction types. If you look at the tables in chapter 5 for height, number of stories, and area, each construction type has an option to be not protected by a sprinkler system. The tables reference back to section 903.2 to determine thresholds for sprinkler protection.

Kyle explains it well.
Sprinklers are NOT REQUIRED in any construction TYPE. They are a strategy for increasing allowable building height and area. They MAY be required by use and occupancy classifications based on building code.
Some municipal Zoning codes may require sprinklers in general or in certain construction types.
I would advise, that on the exam, if you are stressing about whether or not sprinklers are required, you should CAREFULLY READ all provided IBC and Zoning code information.
