Today's ARE Update
Well, today's ARE update seems to think everyone is taking tests online.
How many people here cannot take online due to internet issues, no "clear" space at home, computer set-up at home is not acceptable,etc? I don't even have enough internet for Netflix.
In other words how many of us are being punished because we don't have the tools needed to go online?
And the part about "performance not affected because of whiteboard" that's just downright ridiculous. That tells you how much they care about post after post after post taking about how horrible the whiteboard is, how interrupts the thought process, how un-natural it is, just so SOME people can take the test online.
13% of tests where the software fails is an unacceptable number. And they act like it's no big deal, just re-schedule and hope the odds are with you this time.. There is obviously a problem with the software, and the fact they never went through and independent verification and validation process is quite telling. They rushed bad software though and now don't seem to care about fixing it. 13% of tests are crashing, how can that be acceptable? Do they not realize that the disruption in concentration is bad for the candidate? How can they be so dense and unwilling to fix anything?
But the smugness, their overall smugness, that's really what gets me. They refuse to engage, refuse to listen and refuse to say they made a mistake. What a sad state for the profession.

I'm going to follow up with Prometric about my test crashes prior to Dec 14th and also submit a report to my state board. I obv did notify them (they had to restart the computer multiple times), but I did not specifically ask that they file a report to NCARB.
The whole thing makes me so mad; yes, the smugness. So my husband is a teacher and thinks the ARE process is bizarre. Praxis core pass rates are over 80%. It is absurd to me that we go through such rigorous schooling, interning and studying so many resources and our pass rates hover around 50%. And that probably doesn't take into account people who just stop trying. With life safety and legal considerations, I agree our exams should be challenging, but NCARB is setting us up to fail.
Praxis, by comparison, has nothing mentioned on the website about test software crash rates...probably because it does not happen often enough to address it! Can you imagine if 13% of teachers experienced exam problems? They also have a clear section about testing accommodations. Oh, Praxis uses prometric too, so it's not like NCARB can push all these issues onto the testing provider. Praxis also still allows scratch paper....
