PDD after a PPD Fail
Would anyone recommend after failing PPD taking PDD before re-taking PPD?? Thats a tongue twister!

Speaking from experience, I personally would not do that. I have tried that without success. There is a lot of overlap between the two exams, as I am sure you know. If you can't pass one, your chances aren't good that you will be able to pass the other. Especially since PDD goes into more detail than PPD. If you have PDD scheduled already I would take advantage of the fact that we can reschedule our exams for free right now and reschedule for PPD.

I feel like you’ll get a mix of responses for this one, but here’s my perspective. I took PPD once and failed, took it again after another 6 weeks and failed again. Then decided to take a break and try to move onto something different and took PDD which I passed on the first try. My advice, try taking PPD again if your scorecard was decent so that the info is still fresh in your head. If you fail a second time, try moving onto PDD. Plus, after I studied the Ballast guide for PDD, I noticed there was a bit of info that was helpful/relevant for PPD. So maybe consider adding PDD ballast to your study materials for PPD. Hope this helps and good luck!

I took PPD for the first time in July and failed. I have to wait at least 2 months to re-take it, so I scheduled PDD for August to make use of the time and keep the momentum going. I cranked it up a notch and studied harder for PDD and was able to pass it. So now I am circling back and preparing to re-take PPD in 3 weeks.
It is doable though. So much of the material overlaps so it's not like you are learning completely different things. I am trying to keep what I learned for PDD fresh in my mind because I'm sure it will be useful. The blog posts are helpful with understanding what to study.

I passed PPD when I retook it a few days ago. This was after failing it once, then passing PDD. I felt much more prepared for PPD the second time around though. Dylan is right about switching gears slightly. Thankfully, the similarities are close. Not really any specs or construction document review like PDD has.

I took PDD for the 2nd time today....thought I did real good. finished exam with 4 minutes left. Then got a preliminary fail....I was so disappointed. However, onward to PPD in 3 weeks. Have anyone gotten a preliminary failed and actually passed? Just thought I throw the question out there..

Devin: Yes, move onto PPD. Three weeks should be enough time to adjust to the new material. Remember, these two exams, while different, are related enough that studying for one helps reinforce your knowledge for the other. To your point about preliminary scores, unfortunately it’s unheard of for anyone to receive a fail report but ultimately pass. The reverse can happen, but only if Prometric shows NCARB that you did something improper, like attempt to cheat. Good luck with the rest of your exams!
