Allowable Area: Frontage and Sprinklers
Hello! First time posting here! I have some questions about the area increase due to sprinklers in relation to the area increase due to frontage formula.
The frontage formula: Aa=At + (NS X lf) seems to take into account if the building is sprinklered (for example if it is sprinklered At would be different than NS).
The area increase due to sprinklers: Aa=At + (At X lf) + (At X ls)
Why is it At X lf and not NS X lf?
If it is a single occupancy building that is eligible for a frontage increase and is sprinklered, which formula should I use?
Thanks for the clarification!

Hi, first time commenting! I'm taking this exam on Monday and just came across this video today that explains this very well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIAEyFkOPzM
I hope I'm understanding your question correctly, but my understanding is that the equation you use is going to depend on the scenario of your project or case studio and will be defined according to scenario in IBC Chapter 5 (I think section 506.2). So it will depend on occupancy, construction type, use, etc. The example they use in this video is for use group M and is type 2A construction, but in my experience it was still helpful in understanding the process behind this calculation and where to look.
