MEP Systems

Hi, attached is a screenshot from an old NCARB building systems exam. Below are what I think the labels are for each. My question is D the chilled water return or supply?
A: Air Handling Unit
B: Compressor (confirmed by NCARB)
C: Condenser
Not labeled but the X below B is the valve and opposite C is the Evaporator
D: Chilled water return or supply?

Hi All,
All the books emphasize that air intake should be as far as possible from any pollution sources like parking and loading docks.
But Studio Companion also suggests that it;s good to locate loading docks close to mechanical rooms for easy servicing/access to equipment.
The question is how far really does the intake has to be from a loading dock? Is it a rule of thumb to just always put intake on the opposite side of the building from the loading dock creating maximum separation, or what?
But if it's not necessary to create the maximum distance, I might consolidate the mechanical room with fan room in one location not too far from the loading dock (as studio companion suggests) than I will have an intake not too far also? ...unless I run a duct from the mechanical room to the other side of the building to create maximum distance?
Thank you,
