Acoustics - Site Planning
Hi everyone,
This may be an obvious 'no' however I'm curious if a wall barrier between a building and a noise source is ever 'allowed' to be installed in a landscaping strip?
From what I've read I know things like easements, etc. should be avoided however I can't seem to find anything about landscaping beyond the obvious reasoning that it's probably not best practice for sustainability reasons to remove or reduce landscaping if you don't have to.
Thanks for any insights.

The bigger issue may have more to do with acoustical performance at that location, not rules about where walls are allowed. Was there an image with this practice question? if so, know that if you have a noise source (truck) and a receiver (person with ears on a balcony), the least effective place for an outdoor noise barrier is halfway between them. The most effective location is as near as possible to the noise source or as near as possible to the receiver. See the images, below, from my book, Architectural Acoustics Illustrated.--Michael Ermann, Amber Book creator.

mermann from your comment "The bigger issue may have more to do with acoustical performance at that location, not rules about where walls are allowed." do you mean that placing the barrier where walls are not allowed could be a possible answer? I would think that we need to use all our knowledge to rule that option out? But now I'm wondering if this is one of those "read what the question is asking." Would love to know your thoughts!
