Soil Types
Hi! I've been studying for PA and my test is quickly approaching - i feel like im still wishy washy on the soil types & maybe their pros/ cons - what we actually need to know on test day. I went through Black spectacles and am currently reading select chapters in the site planning & design handbook. Is there any resources out there that really helped any of you grasp these topics?

The main thing to know about soils is the general strength and mixes (GW, GP, SW, SC, etc.), and how to approach them in terms of buildability. Do you intend on using shallow foundation systems but discover the soil is mostly a clay mixture? How do you approach building on sandy silt soils? What soils deem caisson foundations as an appropriate option?
Site Planning and Design is a great resource, I've found a few websites that also helped me in studying for PA to understand the correlation between soil types and structural applications: link 1; link2

See the following Arniko Academy Notes screenshot for the Soil Texture Triangle.

For more details on how to use the Soil Texture Triangle see this youtube video. You should at-least be able to read the boring log for the AREs.
Hope this helps.
