CE - Exam - Construction details (Building Construction Illustrated) D.K Ching
-
For CE, you'll want a good understanding of how details work. Know your wall sections and components for moisture protection and support, how to protect the structure of the wall from moisture and proper material layering/order (sheathing, WRB, etc). Chapter 5 and 7 look to be your best sources to reference and understand how the assemblies and their components go together and are supposed to function.
A201 contract is your bible for this exam. A lot of the content focuses on the who is responsible for what and why under the circumstances given, dive into that and know what the architect is liable for in CA vs the owner/contractor/others. Having knowledge of the bid phase and how it's handled also will help you prepare for this exam. For code, be aware of your standard ADA clearances and requirements (ramps, stair rise/run, head clearance, restroom clearances, etc.) as it's important to know if something is built non-compliant and being able to identify and resolve it.
Good luck!
