questions in ballast practice exam
Hi guy, I'm studying ballast review manual. And on Sunday I tried some questions in ballast practice exam and found the questions are very difficult and I could only answer 25% right. And it seems the contents of ballast review manual doesn't cover the contents of the questions. Previously, I found the questions in the ARE 5.0 Handbook are not that difficult. I hope some one can let me know whether the ballast practice exam's difficulty level or the ARE 5.0 Handbook's level is the same as the real exams. Many thanks in advance!

Dear Yanrong
Ballast questions are either for testing for the contents of the book or providing additional info. Either case will give you a opportunity of getting familiar with real exam & another flash card. I also recommend WeARE, Elif & Archzam online mock exam (inc. free exams) down the road of your exam prep which is closer to ARE exam questions.

That is correct. I am taking WeARE, Elif & Archzam online mock exam in addtion to Amber Video with other reference books, third party prep materials, etc.
Trying to create your own questions with the material you learned is very important to pass the exams.
I noticed that people failed said most of the questions from what they did not study. meanwhile, people who passed not only tried to create their own questions (Elif online mock exam is the good example : she actually sharing thru online what she created for her own exam.) but also listed what they found out during the exam which is hiding inside the mask of questions. Hope this will help you to better prepare exam.
By the way, I passed PA & PDD recently (rest passed last year except PDD).

Hey lotus0418 - What decision did you come to regarding the Ballast mock exam? I just got my book in today and did the PcM exam, and it's absolutely nothing like the other review material I have been going over. Only 45% of the questions correct. Really disappointed, as I was expecting it to be a valuable resource.
Thanks!

Brett, the Ballast Exams are notoriously problematic. Often they test you on vey specific knowledge that you either can/ can't recall or know/ don't know), instead of posing questions that require some cognitive thinking. They do pose some cognitive-based questions, but the given answer is often dubious or subjective. I am way more sure of the 'best' answer on NCARB tests than I am on the Ballast tests. I wouldn't sweat whatever Ballast scores you get, but would and do definitely use their exams to expose holes in my knowledge.
