Hi guys, I cannot understand the highlighted sentence in the second image. And for the two highlighted graphs, I cannot understand the sentence refers to them in the first image. Which graph (b) or (c) does the highlighed sentence refer to? And what's "catenary"? I hope some one can kindly answer my questions. Many thanks in advance.

  Hi.

  The catenary is the shape a chain hung between 2 points makes.  A parabola shape is made by a uniform load plus the self-load of the cable.

  Hope this helps.  I wouldn't worry about this topic too much.
