Shouldn't it be 50 STC?
So this questions is from the Case Studies: It is asking to tag the wall where the UL assembly corresponds. According to the exam the right answer is the wall dividing the apartment and the gallery. However, I would say none. Shouldn't the STC for apartments per IBC be a minimum of 50? This UL is 49! Help please clarifying here.

Hi Lillian,
I cannot see the entire drawing or the entire answer, but the question asks you to tag a wall that's a UL U419. It's rated 1 hr, plus has an STC 49, and is 5-3/8" thick. So that should narrow it down quickly. It has to be a stair enclosure wall or a wall dividing 2 different use groups. Is that red cross hair what you chose or the correct answer?

You are correct, Lillian….IBC minimum lab-tested STC between dwellings in multifamily is STC 50….I’m almost certain someone called this out about six months ago on this forum …hopefully it will be fixed in not too long. they’re releasing edited practice exams to correct for errors soon …(I’m not familiar with this question, but I can confirm that you are right about IBC)

Lilian, If particular IBC section for STC ratings between apartments is not in the resources, and occupancy separation is, I would disregard the exact STC number, and go with a general idea that STC 49 is high. There is also a hint saying sprinkler system is present - it's there to get you to check occupancy separation for sprinklered spaces. Remember - the game here is to answer the question based on info provided. And yes, many questions are not perfectly formulated. But neither is the standard of our practice! :D
