Hiya! Regarding this question below - the correct answer is B, but wouldn't this option reduce the width of egress and therefore not appropriate?

  The ADA requires 3'-0" minimum hallway widths, though it can be reduced to 2'-8" for a length of 24". Hallways do need to have a passing space of 5'-0" at least every 200 feet so that two wheelchairs can pass each other. 

  Option B may not be ideal, but it does meet the code. It leaves enough space to meet the 3'-0" minimum clearance width.

  The problem with option A is that the elevator is accessed at the stair landing. You have to go up the stairs to reach the elevator, which defeats the purpose of an elevator.

  The problem with option C is that it opens directly into a private residence, so it isn't accessible to most other users.

  I, too, answered location A taking into account the cost of floor/ceiling structural modification necessary at location B. By adding the elevator to the side of the building, no structural modifications are necessary, thus costing less.  Is that not a valid point?

  David, if cost concerns weren't specifically stated in the question, don't take them into consideration. As a general rule for the ARE, don't read any further into a question than what's provided.
