    Travis,

NCARB will provide at least 18 months’ notice prior to retiring a version of the exam. NCARB does not have an anticipated timeline for launching the next version of the exam, but will provide candidates with sufficient notice to complete testing before any passed divisions expire.

Ok this helps. May I suggest expanding the 18 months notice with the new protocol in place? It leaves a pretty good amount of uncertainty in planning/scheduling exams. At least with the rolling clock, candidates know their deadline.

    Thanks for the response

The policy is called "Exam +1" - so any scores for ARE 4.0 are valid in 5.0, but not 6.0; so ARE 5.0 scores will be valid in 6.0, but not 7.0.
The earliest NCARB would consider changing from 5.0 to 6.0 would be after the AIA Contract Documents update.  In this case, that would be 2027 as AIA Contract Documents update every 10 years (2007, 2017, 2027, 2037, etc.)

Finally, NCARB will give 18 months heads up/announcement before the 5.0 transitions to 6.0.

So no, your rolling clock is not ending sooner - it's actually been extended.
