Can someone please explain why did we only take half the snow load if we only have 1 ridge beam?

  Half the snow load is carried by the exterior walls.

  If it’s a structural ridge beam (posting down to the foundation) the ridge beam carries the other 1/2.

  If it’s not a structural ridge, then the ridge is not carrying any load, and the load is all being carried by the exterior walls.
