PjM - NCARB Practice Exam - Answer Confusion

Hello,

I recently took the NCARB free practice exam - and while reviewing the material noticed a confusing correct vs. incorrect answer. During schematic design are you supposed to prepare two preliminary budgets? and wouldn't incorporating the AHJ's requirements in construction documentation be too late?

Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

  This requirements are mentioned in B 101 ARTICLE 2 SCOPE OF ARCHITECT’S BASIC SERVICES, it might be different that what we actually practice in the real world. We submit the dwgs to AHJ during the SD stage but NCARB world / B101 says prior to completion of CD.

  For your first question, I Guess That's simply a typo mistake. They might want to have some other option and mistakenly repeat the one they had already. These questions are new and possibly can still need to be reviewed.

  For the next question, I think checking the drawings with AHJ rules should be in all phases starting with SD. But the question just has asked us if it's needed in CD. The question hasn't brought all the work that needs to be done in all the phases. It has chosen only one task for each phase. I hope it helps.

  Hi Timothy,

  Thank you for your post on the Project Management practice exam item. There is only one preliminary budget that belongs in the Schematic Design phase. We have removed the second "Prepare a preliminary budget" from the item. Again, thank you for letting us know!
