Is well graded gravel or poor graded gravel better for foundation?

If I remember properly, Amber Books discusses that well-graded gravel is good for a foundation while poorly graded gravel is good for drainage. Well graded gravel suggests that the gravel is firmly locked in place and cannot slip past one another, with poorly graded gravel leaving open spaces where water can freely travel.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong because I have PA this Monday!

Well graded gravel = smooth range of stone sizes along a Gradient

Poorly graded gravel = irreglaur range of sizes along a Gradient; therefore subject to liquefaction
