PPD / PDD Timeline

I finished my exams in 2017, but believe that the advice I received back then still could apply.  I personally took these two tests 10 days apart from one another, with PPD first and then PDD.  I found the study materials to be very similar and really only had to add in one or two resources between PPD and PDD to feel like I was covered.  While 10 days might be too quick for some, I do think that the "close together" approach makes sense and you might find it helpful.  It's the same material, but PPD looks at the DD level of design whereas PDD looks at the CDs level of design.

I will offer this as well: when I took the tests I had 14 years of work experience under my belt, with a lot of experience preparing a set of construction documents.  That definitely helped me and was a main factor in why I felt 10 days was enough time.  Depending on where you are at work-wise, you may want to take a bit more time in between.

    Hope that helps.

While there is definitely some overlap between PPD and PDD, you still will need to study for each individually, in my opinion.  The readings are long.

I recommend reading several chapters of the building code for PDD and PPD study.

PA overlaps with PPD.  But I also think PPD should be taken last (or next to last) because it's the most difficult exam by far...  Build up to it.

    Hope this helps!

    Hey Alison,

I went through Hyperfine assignment (PPD + PDD) and Ballast Review Manual (PPD + Half of PDD, I feel PDD of Review Manual covers too much useless information) at the beginning.

Then I focused on PPD practice exams (Elif, WeARE, Designer Hacks, Archizam) and used practice exams as a guide to reading books. After passing the PPD, I switched to PDD practice exams, which took me another two months.
