    Different types of insulations have specific R-Values per unit thickness, in short R-value/1 inch.

    So if we say you need R-19 for a wall.

    And you want to use Perlite board as insulation (R-Value 2.8 per inch)

    You would need 19/2.8 =  ~7 inch thick insulation.
