I have not ever checked the results of my calculations using the NCARB calculator, but I just tried the same calculation you did, and same inaccurate result (compared to my phone calculator.)

I had never checked the results either, until I was taking a practice test and got a question wrong even though I was thinking through it correctly. And then I realized it was because the calculator was wrong.

    Hi Lauren,

Thank you posting this information to the Community. We are currently working with our vendor to resolve the identified bug with the calculator. While we address the issue, we have reverted back to the traditional calculator on both the demo exam and live exam. This calculator has been used on the exam since its launch in 2016 and provides functionality to solve all calculation items on the ARE. As soon as our vendor resolves the bug with the new calculator, it will be turned on for all candidates. We'll keep you posted.

Also, to ensure no candidates were negatively impacted by this bug, we are doing analysis on all exams taken since the new calculator was launched on August 30th. Any impacted candidates will be contacted by NCARB.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and want to thank you again for letting us know about this bug.

UPDATE: We have completed our analysis on all exams taken with the new calculator and can confirm that no candidates were negatively impacted by this bug. Our vendor is actively working to resolve the bug so we can make the enhanced calculator available to all testers as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued patience.

In addition to the calculator bug, has there been a cross check on the computer scoring? I emailed NCARB on my thoughts of my score possibly being a pass and awaiting their response. I had scored level 1 for two content areas, level 2 for a large content area and based on the announced cut score I feel my score could very likely be a pass. I wonder with the whole question reduction, new cut score adjustments, and all the technical issues reported like the calculator bug, whether the computer scoring could also have a technical kink that should be reviewed and confirmed?
