Gross Area

Problem seeking states Gross area includes basements, mezzanines, or penthouses. However I worked on an example problem that asked about rooftop penthouse for kitchen hoods, it stated it was not apart of the gross building square footage because it is uninhabitable space, this conflicting.

  A penthouse for a hood would just be an enclosure around a piece of ductwork.  The hood would probably be about 3' tall.  See pic on this website.  https://www.unitedhoodcleaning.com/commercial-hood-cleaning/

  The other things - basements, mezzanines, etc are spaces people can occupy and use.
