question in Ballast (14)
Hi Guys, I don't understand the highlighted sentence in below image. I know that the sliding doors and elevators cannot be exits under emergency. So why are they in this list? I hope someone can explain it for me. Thanks very much in advance.

That's actually not true. Elevators and horizontal sliding doors are permitted to be used a means of egress, but when doing so, they have to meet certain criteria. All of this criteria is listed in the building code. For elevators, you can find out that information in Chapter 11 under Accessible Means of Egress. For horizontal sliding doors, that would be in Chapter 10 in the Doors section. Check it out, I think that will help you.

David is correct, I do a lot of commercial projects, some governing agencies allow the sliding doors with push open setting to be used as exit doors.
