Hi Guys, I don't understand the highlighted sentence in below image. Why are the vertical dimensions of the items so low? I hope someone can explain it for me. Thanks very much in advance.

I think it means that the deeper the obstruction is (like a beam) the farther away it needs to be.

A is the horizontal distance and B is the vertical.
The Ballast book needs to re-word that section.
