The main goal of the methodoligies to suggest is to standardize the drawing set, as there's been too much variation between similar project sets that are going out. Start with answers to eliminate: terms/abbreviations are included on all sets, so this is a moot option; referencing systems are similar in the sense that all sets will include systems of reference to other drawings, details, etc.

That leaves us with four options to consider. Reducing drawing redundacy helps to focus the set and not bloat the drawings with duplicate items/details across multiple sheets. Default scheduling helps to create a catch-all sheet/schedule that can apply across multiple sheets, so to not repeat and help condense the typical set (ADA accessibility design and clearances, for example). Instructional systems assist in guiding the contractor for the installation of systems to work with the design intent of the drawings.

These three options can be standardized on the average set to reduce repetition of details throughout and to help the firm develop a better streamlined approach to developing drawing sets for similar projects. The final option, working in context, will vary project to project, depending on site, systems, applications, etc. and will not be as easy to standardize as the other three.

I just studied this question this morning and got the exact same initial answers you did: BDF.

My interpretation was that this question is really about estimating/planning the appropriate number and scope of sheets before production, not just cleaning up existing documents afterward.

That’s why it feels a bit weird, the wording is vague and uses management language. It seems like ARE is testing broader concepts such as:

    • operational systems
    • office standards
    • production planning

    …rather than literal drafting mechanics.

Definitely one of those questions where “real-world logic” and “official exam logic” may not feel the same.

This is a really perplexing question. I also got the same answer as those above: BDF. The specificity of the question does not match the specificity of the answers they are looking for.
