You’ll take the first five minutes of class to answer this week's question alone, but if you would like to get a head-start on that, here is the assignment:
Upon leaving a firm to start a new firm on her own, an architect would like to take some of the designs, drawings, data, reports and notes she created at the old firm with her to the new firm. She plans to include the work on her new firm’s website in order to establish her experience to potential clients. None of the work in question is confidential. Which of following best describes the status of that effort with regard to the profession’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct?
A. The architect may take the work and needn’t ask permission
B. The old firm owns the work; the departing architect may not take copies of the work
C. The architect must ask permission to take copies of the work, but the old firm is under no obligation to grant permission to take it
D. The architect must ask permission to take copies of the work, and the old firm is obliged to grant her permission to do so
