Ballast CE Practice Help - Critical Path Schedule
11. The architect is reviewing a critical path method schedule from the contractor. The critical path is 200 calendar days with 30 days of float. Contractor plans on 5 day work week. What is the construction time?
Ballast says divide 200 calendar days by 5 working day to get about 40 weeks for construction. But if the project will take 200 calendar days wouldn't you divide by 7 for the days in a week resulting in approximately 28 weeks? 40 weeks for construction would be more than 200 calendar days. Is this just a Ballast typo or am I missing something?
Thanks!

It is probably a typo.

Hi Samantha. In the second edition of Ballast practice questions it says "The critical path is 200 days" - that's total days and not calendar days. Meaning that you divide 200 by 5. (=40 weeks of construction time) It could in fact have been a typo that they corrected in the latest edition. Now you're going to ask me about the weekends, and if they count towards total time. The questions asks for "construction time". The multiple choice options are 40weeks, 46weeks, 32weeks and 6weeks.
One of my qualms with NCARB questions is that they often provide superfluous information, which steals valuable time away from the examinee.
