    Jonathan,

You're probably not going to like my response here but I'll provide it anyway, and if you want to take my advice, great.  Having passed all of these exams, I wouldn't recommend studying anything you've cited above.  Little to no return on the investment you will spend learning how to size a beam and identifying the section modulus.

    hi david,
i find this kind of thing rather aggravating which is probably obvious. assuming you only took one exam how would you know?
for instance, “ in the STRUCTURAL tables like W shapes what do i need to find generally?”
    you are answering “nothing”?
and just as a practical matter can anyone confirm it is the X-X axis for for section modulus or bending type stuff? i’d just like to refresh a factual matter about actual construction related knowledge while studying if i can!

    Jon,

All due respect, your post did not say you were asking these questions with the intent to "refresh a factual matter about actual construction related knowledge."  And I quote from above, "this is unnecessary to review?" and "what do I need to find generally?" and asking what should be expected.  These are all in relation to assisting you with studying for this exam - not with the intent of gaining knowledge in general about construction.  My response to you was in the vein of what I feel is necessary to review and what you should expect, and I would further note to you that yes, while I only had to take each exam once and therefore don't have several attempts under my belt to speak about them with vast experience, many, many people on here share the view of "don't overstudy structural" for these tests.

The advice is based on the fact that there is LOT to study for these tests, particularly PPD and PDD where these types of questions might show up.  Once I saw the litany of information and study resources that I needed to cover for these exams, I sort of had to pick and choose my battles.  The main battle I said I was not going to fight was that of structural engineering, and I instead opted to stick to the concepts of structural engineering and the types of systems, how they affect our buildings, etc.  I personally found that approach to pay off for me, as have others.

All the best.  It's completely fine if you are interested in these topics and would like to know about them.  Just don't attack others when they offer you guidance to help you pass these tests, and I assure you if I had known that you were asking not so much for the test but instead for your own knowledge, I would never have responded as I do not know the answers to anything you have asked.

    hi david
thank you for your help here. i apologize. i value your help. i would like to get more of your help. i very much respect the fact that you are here. very much.
i find online communication in a forum like this with the various constraints to be difficult. i am not trying to attack anyone.
i am just trying to ask a direct question (as direct as i can ask it) and get a direct answer. if i don’t understand the answer (or don’t agree with the answer or whatever) i have a choice to continue to discuss the topic or not.
i am trying to be as direct as i can.
what i am trying to ask is what is important to know for the exams as it relates to the exam questions. and also a random factual question.
i mean in some way this question is an analo for the rest of the exam in that it is like a wild goose chase. so i am trying to narrow this chase down with specific questions about the specific content in specific rows in this specific chart.
if i understand your answer you are saying that relative to the other information i need to know in this exam it is your opinion that none of these structural charts are eirthcsienfing any time on?
again i have LOT of respect for you personally and i would like to ask if you would be willing to contribute to my threads. because if you are i will ask more questions here.
if no one participates this forum is useless however.

hi david. i am re-reading here. i did not mean that i found your answer aggravating. i am just trying to allude to the fact i find the kind of “indeterninate and undefined” aspect of the exam i find sgggravsting. meaning i find it aggravating i have to ask the question and go down a wormhole about it.
