NCARB Record Review and Transmittal
I have been waiting almost two months for NCARB to send my record to the NY State Education Dept. Every time I call to follow up they tell me the record will be sent tomorrow. Most recently, I was told the record was already reviewed but when I called two days later (since I didn't receive any confirmation email) they told me the record is still to be reviewed but will likely go out tomorrow. That happened yesterday.
This is beyond frustrating!
Why can't NCARB be more efficient with this? I have been working hard to get my license but now I feel stuck in a senseless bureaucratic process.

I too am waiting and wish there was a way to expedite the transmittal. My state board only meets once every two months to review and approve applications - beginning to get worried that if NCARB doesn't transmit soon that I will miss my window of time to get into the review and will have to wait an additional 2 months longer than anticipated.

Same here. NCARB sent me an email THREE weeks after passing the last ARE stating "the process may take up to 45 business days". So, NINE more weeks to review hours and exams that have already been completed? But they rush to push out a new test and online proctoring in December. Based on the comments above, my record will likely get delayed until after January 1st.

Hi Luisa! Glad to hear your record is finally on it's way. I just finished my last test and now I am starting the process of getting my transmittal sent to my state. Is there an official document I have to fill out? Or do I just contact NCARB's Customer Service? Not really sure what my next steps are, I would love any advice you have!

Congrats on passing your last exam! such a great feeling. There's no need to fill out any documents or forms for NCARB to start the process. They should send you an email soon (if you haven't received it already) stating that you have passed all your exams and finished the AXP (I'm assuming you have) so they will start the process of reviewing your record. The email I received said it could take up to 45 days. So there is no need to contact NCARB to initiate the process.
I started calling their customer service for status checks after about 35 days of not hearing from them.

I am also experiencing this same problem. I was originally told via phone that "they say it takes up to 30 business days but it really doesn't take that long typically". I was then told via email it would take up to 30 business days to have my test scores sent. It's now been 33 business days and after trying to email NCARB, their automatic response was they will get back to me in 7 to 10 business days....Extremely frustrating.

Update: NCARB released my record to my state this week. It did take them almost 2 months to review and transfer. Once received by my state it took about 24 hours to process. I had sent all the documents required by the state during NCARB's review period and paid the fees online the day they sent my record. I am happy to say that I am duly licensed to practice architecture.

I am currently in the waiting period now.
Funny though, it took us all how long to study for and pass the exams, but we want our record transmitted IMMEDIATELY :-)

I just passed my last exam yesterday (and my record is updated to show all PASS!). I'm applying for license in PA. PA has their own portal, but I'm wondering if I should even start with the state paperwork (online) before I even get a confirmation of ARE completion from NCARB? The state board is also currently not answering phones because of Covid (like, what?), so there's no easy way to get a straight answer.
PA says applicant must contact NCARB to "request transmittal of their green cover file." Even though all the tests say PASS, ARE completion still says "In Progress." So, do I need to do anything to initiate the record transmittal?
I just slammed all my exams in the last few weeks before scratch paper change, so yes, I do expect my record transmitted immediately, haha :-)

Hey Katie,
It took a few days for my record to change from "in progress" to "complete." You should get an email from NCARB in the next few days that congratulates you on passing, at which point your record will change!
I'm still waiting on NCARB to send the official transmittal (it takes up to 45 business days according to their website), but I did reach out to the state of Texas, and I was able to do all of their separate requirements in advance... so that whenever NCARB does finally come through, I should be totally done! It might be worth doing the same thing in PA. It may not speed up NCARB's process, but it couldn't hurt your overall timeline. Plus... it just feels good to take some action, no matter how small haha!
So glad we were able to get these tests out of the way in 2020 - this year had nothing on us!!

First - Congratulations!
Next - Start your stuff on the state Portal. In fact it seems you did if you got the message about the Green Cover.
I emailed NCARB about the same thing, making sure I did not fail to send something. NCARB says it takes 30 days for them to get to your record for REVIEW and then another 10 days for them to send it off. (Business days - not calendar days).
My buddy and I passed in November and are still waiting on transmittal to Pennsylvania.
Another tip - if you are not Associate AIA at present, and do intend to become AIA when you are registered. Sign up NOW as an associate and pay that reduced membership fee. AIA explained to me that when you are Associate and you become registered, they update your membership status (at no additional charge) and it will save you hundred of dollars!

Has anyone ever encountered NCARB successfully sent your ARE completion to the Board, but not your AXP report even though you've finished your hours?
I got a mail from the California Architects Board stating that my ARE completion is approved (this process was completed within a week), and yet my AXP record is missing (which I've completed more than 6 months ago). This makes me think NCARB might send ARE and AXP reports separately...?
Any insights would be helpful!

I still haven't heard anything from NCARB about the transmittal, but with the holidays, it's still less than 30 business days. PA state board, however, has been sending me reminders to have NCARB send my record...they're ready to finalize everything.
I don't know why it takes so long to review and transmit a record that I've literally been paying NCARB to retain for years. The only new information is completion of exams.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else. I'm at 31 business days (52 calendar days) since they sent me an email that they are reviewing. Trying to be patient due to the holidays- but I keep getting nervous that I'm missing a step or my record isn't complete. I've had all the other requirements completed with Texas since receipt of them receiving my exam scores in November.

I just hit 37 business days, and sent another inquiry about it to NCARB (I sent my first one a couple of weeks ago.)They got back to me almost immediately and said they put in a request to have my record expedited, and to allow 3-5 business days for a confirmation email. Hoping that means my state will receive it early next week, but we'll see!

I think NCARB just needs to update its expected waiting time to 60 days.
UPDATE: 2 months exactly to get my record transmitted after passing. And I emailed NCARB and never got any response from them regarding timing.

If all else fails, give them a call. Got an automated email indicating it would take 30-60 days, then when I emailed to confirm the schedule they said 30 days. I waited (impatiently) for 21 days then called them on the phone. Nice person I talked to said it would take 3-5 days. I received approval the following day. Always helps to talk to someone and you don't have to wait on hold for long! Thanks NCARB!
