A calender day vs a business working day
Hi,
I understand that the term "day" is defined to be a calendar day under A201, unless otherwise specified. I've come across 2 practice questions on Black Spectacles, that indicate a day means business working day, as a general rule.
Can someone shed some light on what should be assumed on the exam if no further context is given?

I have seen it both ways. If you run into a question in ARE exams, the instructions will clearly tell you if it is working day or calendar day.

In real practice, calendar days are used when dealing with contracts, etc. Working days are use when dealing with scheduling, or assigning manpower, etc. It will be stated clearly either way.

I always wondered about this. It's a "lower case term" i think in the AIA documents. Hence, i guess it's not a defined term like the other "capitalized terms."
On the other hand, under AIA A201 - 2017, article 8 time, section 8.1.4 does define it "The term 'day' as used in the Contract Documents shall mean calendar day unless otherwise specifically defined"

I have come across the same issue and in my exam it wasn't clear. The question just said "day", no definition of working day or calendar day. I hope someone from NCARB can answer this. If the question says "working day" or "day" are we to assume it means M-F, and if there are Holidays imbedded into the question should we not count those days towards questions that ask about scheduling, extension of time etc? Meaning, if the question asks for example, "construction begins June 15 and is expected to be done...oh say July 14, and contractor needs "x" more days for a change order blah blah blah, when should construction be complete?" Do we not count the weekends and July 4th? Thank you.
