Different Types of R Value Problems

Hi all,

 

I sometimes see R value problems that multiply the given R value by the material thickness and then those values are added together for Total R, and I have also seen other problems that just add the R values given in the chart without multiplying the thickness of the material for the R value total. Does anyone know what the difference is? I might be missing something glaringly obvious.

  Just emailed Elif and she clarified as follows:

  "Pay attention to the table or information text that is given. If it says R value per inch then you have to multiply, if it says R value period then it is for the whole thickness. I believe only air space is an exception because no matter how thick it is the R value if it us constant.
