Fire-safing vs fire-stopping
What is the difference between fire-safing and fire-stopping?
I know fire-safing can be used between a spandrel beam and curtain wall. It can also be used below a roof deck. Can't fire-stopping be here too? How do you choose between the two? What are the benefits of using one over the other?
Thanks!

Fire-safing is essentially a type of firestopping. Any installation where you are infilling some sort of joint or penetration with a fire-resistant assembly classifies as firestopping. Fire-safing is one method of firestopping, and traditionally involves a "fire safing material" which is often mineral wool. You see fire safing/mineral wool type assemblies at the edges of curtain walls and expansion joints.
Hope that helps.
