PPD Fail
So I just stepped out of prometric with a likely to fail.....not fun. I think I was very close to passing.. I will need a couple of days to recover before I get back to the books...we'll see what the score report says..
This was my first try at PPD( having passed PCM,PJM,CE,PA). I wanted to schedule before the transition to the digital whiteboard.
There were 24 case study questions which is the most I have had so far of all exams, I guess because the exam is 120 questions you get more case studies. First case study was pretty tough, second was 14 questions. I started with case studies first, then MC. Case studies took about 1:45 min, and I had about 25 min at the end of the exam to review.
Lots of calculations on this exam, at least on the version I got. Not sure how this will work with the new digital whiteboard, I cant imagine doing all those calcs on the screen with a mouse, I used like 2 pages of scratch paper...maybe NCARB will omit calculation heavy questions in the new format..
I studied for about 2-3 months with the MEEB, ASC,BCI,IBC, Hyperfine, Fema. You need to know occupancies well, also fire separations and construction types(what are they made of). Not much in the way of structural calculations, but you need to review forces.
I have PDD scheduled for Nov 10, and will then come back to PPD ...I'm still deciding if I should reschedule PDD to take it in the new format.
Good luck to everyone studying...

Andrew,
Did you do much studying regarding site design and layout? I am looking for more resources in regards to solar orientation, prevailing winds and site plantings, building on a hill, etc.

Hi Mark,
I didn't do much studying regarding siting a building , as I have just passed PA and a lot of that information is still fresh . Sun Wind Light would be a good resource for building siting as well as some of the PA resources. There were only a couple questions on my exam relating to building locations on a site, and one about site grading....
Hopefully that's helpful! -
Andrew,
I was in your situation last year, I failed PPD and had PDD scheduled for a week later, I almost rescheduled PDD, but my roomate talked me out of it and I am glad he did. I ended up passing PDD. However, I retook PPD again twice and failed. I am retaking PPD again, this November. My point is keep going and take PDD, you probably will pass it. Good Luck!!!
