I used the Ballast Review Manual, then read parts of the Site Planning & Design book, and the Space Planning Basics book, and the Problem Seeking book.  Read all the PA chapters in ballast and quizzes to determine which chapters to read in the other books.  Practice doing space planning diagrams.  This exam had a lot of analytical elements, but also overall site design.  I don't think many interns get a lot of experience with site design, so I agree there's a lot to study.  Know that swales point uphill.  Look at site drawings and decipher them.  Hope this helps!  If you feel you need a group/coach, look around online.

The two books above are excellent and also Sun Wind And Light...I had to read all of these books in order to think like NCARB.....basic 2types of trees for shading and wind barriers..building placement in the 4 basic climate zones, building shape and orientation in the 4 climate zones, microclimates affect on passive heating and cloning, adjacency and bubble diagrams. Broad thinking concepts. Expect to see EPA level 1 &2 covered.
