Life Cycle Cost analysis: factors

When conducting a Life Cycle Analysis, do you include the monies spent on the system?

  Life cycle costs include: operational and maintenance costs, taxes, financing, replacement, and renovation. I don't think it includes the initial costs.

  It's my understanding that Life Cycle Analysis does take into account every aspect of the system cost. This is why we're often faced with questions like....

  System A costs $100 to start but $300 a year to maintain and it has a life expectancy of 10 years.

  System B costs $500 to start but $50 a year to maintain and it has a life expectancy of 3 years.

  Which is more cost effective?

  ....as am example. A very bad, quick example ha.

   

  The initial cost is very important.
