2000 or 2080 Hours Per Year

I was wondering when doing problems regarding chargeable hours, chargeable rate, direct salary, etc. - Are you suppose to use 2000 or 2080 hours per year?  My colleagues and I have been trying to figure out which is the appropriate number to use since we have seen both used in different example problems.

I always assumed you were suppose to use 2080 since this number is accounting for holiday/vacation time which is included in indirect salary and base salary. If it is not, can someone explain why you would use 2000?

  Hi Hannah, I haven't ever heard of using 2000 hours per year. Even in my professional practice course in college I've only heard 2080.

  Scott, it makes sense to me to use 2080 but, amber book and younger architect use 2000 and I wanted to know if anyone knew why they used this.

  My understanding is that you can use either. As long as it is in the ball park. NCARB is testing for competency so 2000 to 2080 is close. If you use 3000 that's another story.
