You may get a test with no calculations at all. I have gotten that before. But, what the NCARB handbooks says is pretty close to what you should expect. Know fees charged by architects, consultants fees (25-30% of architects overall fee). Know how to get utilization rate for multiple employees. Like I said,  alot of the calcs are in the NCARB handbook. Know calculation for cu yards, etc. I lead a study group and a lot of people think they can just hop in without experience and pass the exam. Its possible but huge long shot. You really need to invest the hours and time and study what NCARB suggests because they make the test.

    Hi Tyrone,
    Thank you for the reply.
By NCARB Handbook, I’m assuming you are referring to the ARE 5.0 Handbook that they provide.
By “a lot of the calculations are in the handbook”,
are you referring to the few samples they use straight from the PjM section of the handbook?
Also, almost every text I have read, but especially AHPP keeps reinforcing that consultant fees are typically 40%. Pro Practice Turning Designs Into Buildings as I recall is the same. Both books of course from the matrix.
Utilization rate of multiple employees, I practically read AHPP cover to cover as I studied for PcM (170 hours with an unfortunate fail, because I got what I considered an extremely difficult version of the exam, it was my third one) and I do not once recall AHPP explaining how to determine the Utilization Rate for multiple employees.
I know all about investing the hours and time to study , I think a 170 hours was actually quite excessive and I plan to significantly cut the hours back on PjM. I do not recommend that amount of study for any one exam.

Lastly, what modules of a Project Life Cycle are recommended to understand or know from the CSI PROJECT RESOURCE MANUAL?  It looks as though the majority of the people who passed never once cracked the book open.
