Congrats Michael! That is indeed, inspiring.
Any tips for the forum, particularly regarding study materials?

    Thanks

I've relied on four different forms of study materials which include Ballast Practice Exams, Ballast Review Manual, Architect Exam Prep (study guide, audio companion, audio commentary, and flashcards), and 20 years of work in the industry.

The work experience has really pulled me through the exam process in so many areas.  I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a strong reader, so having the audio companion go through the study guide while I read the material and study the graphical content has really been worthwhile.

I started this process back in October of 2016 then put it off for over two years before I decided one day that this exam wasn't going to take itself.  I had to make the time each day and stick to it, regardless of commitments at the office.  It's not uncommon for me to put in a 10 or 12 hour day then sit down at 10 or 11 at night and get two hours of studying in.  Family and work commitments make this really challenging as I'm sure many candidates have experienced.

Good luck to all those tooling around in the forums looking for advice or resources in their preparation of the ARE.

I have to admire your passion, Michael.
Just hold on to that spirit; you are almost there.

Thank you, and best of luck for the rest of the voyage!!

For the PcM, I am very much following the same material, except DH on top of that.
I have the AHPP but still did not have a chance to flip a page.

CE was my first exam (9-28). Just re-scheduled the PcM on the 01-11.

    Michael,

thanks for the inspiration guys. I too put in a average 8.5 - 9 hour day, then I have to go home to father and husband duties.

I've yet to pass a 5.0 division and I'm retaking PcM and PjM for the 3rd time soon. I have the AEP audio companion and the Ballast material, and I use the Black Specs exams:  but I'm still struggling.  what other advice do you guys have.

Gotta keep pushing, but discouragement is knocking at my door.

Best to not be discouraged with yourself or your efforts, but I understand the frustrations.  You noted that you have the AEP audio companion.  Do you not have the other materials they offer such as the Multiple Choice Study Guide (which goes hand in hand with the audio companion), flashcards, audio commentary, and AIA documents?  AEP also offers mock exams.  I've been pretty pleased with AEP thus far.  I struggle with reading comprehension and staying focused at times, so having the visual to go along with the audio has really helped me.

I am in a similar situation as some of those above. 15 years experience in the field, husband and father with little time after work to study, so whatever time i find needs to be used efficiently. I passed CE in August, and failed PcM a few weeks ago. Took some time off to regroup, also with Thanksgiving and some work obligations, didnt really have time. For my previous attempt, i used everything Michael says above: Ballast Practice Exams, Ballast Review Manual, flashcards, PPI study package. Started studying again for the retake this week, and feel foolish studying the exact same material for a test i felt i was prepared for. I have yet to take the financial and 1000 pages of reading plunge of purchasing the AHPP book, but it seems as though that is pretty standard review material. What is this AEP thing people mention above? Also, are people subscribing to Black Spectacles?

    Shaun-

The AEP note above was referencing the study materials from architectexamprep.com.

Don't be discouraged.  Keep your chin up and stay positive. While I've not subscribed to Black Spectacles, I know of two people that have and seemed to like the documentation.  I've watched a number of the videos by BS on YouTube.

I was able to pass PcM on Saturday and will taking my last exam (PjM) next Saturday.  Fingers crossed.
