The architect does not insure the construction site. This would be on the contractor.

David what is confusing me is commerical general liability covers third party claims at the job site. So I'm confused what scenario would architect general liability pick up claims from injuries on a job site

Hi Tony. Can you please clarify where you read about CGL covering third party claims at the job site? I was reading through Chapter 16 from the AHPP and did not find that written anywhere.
Also if the Owner is injured on a job site I would assume the contractor’s General Liability would cover this especially because maintaining a safe job site falls on the General Contractor. The Architect is not responsible for the safety of the Owner only the safety of his own employees. If an Architects employees are injured on a job site, who’s insurance policy then covers the Architect’s employee?

I looked into this some more. AIA Contract Doc A201 General Conditions of The Contract For Construction (Stipulated Sum). Contractor assumes this responsibility, however it’s case to case. It comes down to the details of the injury: for instance was it due to negligence on the part of the Owner, the Architect, Arch Consultant, Sub Contractor etc.
So the short answer is Contractor, long answer is, it’s more complicated than just a black and white answer. Chances are if it’s an injury, it will likely result in a claim and the insurers and potentially lawyers and courts get involved to determine who was truly at fault.  Hope that helped.

    PMA,

Thanks, I came across this as a practice question, my guess it was a poorly written question. I read the AIA documents and the contractor indemnify the owner and architect any way and is responsible for safety.

    Hi Tony,
    No problem.
Yes Indemnification came to mind as I was thinking about it.
What study source did the practice question come from?
