Hello again! I'm back to study for PDD. Testing date is late July, so I'll be posting until then. My weak areas were codes, costs, and project manual so I'm focusing on these topics.
So here's my first question:
According to Building Codes Illustrated, sections "709 and 710 treat smoke barriers as fire barriers, but with emphasis on restricting the migration of smoke."
- Why does the IBC distinguish between fire barriers and smoke barriers?
- When would I use a smoke barrier as opposed to a fire barrier?
- How does this distinction play into increased safety?
- Does this distinction result in some kind of trade-off for more design flexibility?
