    Abigail,

Thanks for the post and congratulations,

Just a quick question: you said "Read the PPI study guide. I mean it. Don't just skim it, read this one too front to back. I also listened to the audio guide version of this book".

What book did you have on audio?  I did not see Ballast's/PPI or the recent Brightwood to PPI books in audio format?

    Thank you,

    Mark

    Abigail,

    Congrats! Time to CELEBRATE!

Thank you so much for your study advice and study plan! I take PDD in 7 weeks and have not though about looking too deep into Fundamentals of Building Construction, but now I most definitely will!

    Thanks again!

Mark, good question! I think they re branded since I last purchased study materials and will update my post.

I am referring to the Architect Exam Prep https://architectexamprep.com/gen-2-project-development-and-documenation/ study guide. When you purchase these you get a full audio guide where he reads the study guide word for word - it was really helpful!

    Good luck!

Congrats Abigail! That's a great feeling! I also wanted to drop a comment and thank you for The Office quote. Well done indeed. Seems like at the beginning, you knew exactly what to do. But in a much more real sense, you had no idea what to do...

I won't derail the productive comments with more quotes, though I'm tempted to :) congrats again, hope you can do something fun to celebrate!

Abigail congrats!! Its a great feeling isnt it? Its been a little over a month since I finished the AREs and it still hasn't completely sunk in, you'll find yourself *almost* missing the routine of studying.

I absolutely second the Fundamentals of building construction recommendation. It was the best book I read during the Ares overall in terms of being both interesting and helpful for the exams. Sadly, I only got it at the tail end of PDD and for my retake of PPD

Second was maybe only AHPP, which wasnt what I would call a fun read but absolutely helpful for the business exams.

To eveyone else, get Fundamentals , AHPP and MEEB (yea meeb, im pushing this one hard still) and you probably could pass all 6 exams.

    Congrats again, enjoy!

    Abigail and Nicholas,

I have the 5th edition of Fundamentals of Building Construction. Do you recommend that I get the 6th edition?

    Thank you in advance!

I actually used the 5th edition that I had from college and it was great! Don't waste your money.

I also used the outdated Kaplan and Ballast books. I know youngarchitect.com has a great blog post about this - but really I do not think it is worth the money buying updated resources if you/ your office has the older versions.

    Hey Tasanee..

I had the 6th edition but like Abigail said , rarely does a new edition make much difference. I had a precursor to the Olins Construction book people talk about which is basically Fundamentals but from the 90s and most of the info is essentially the same .

Funny thing is you learn most typical building systems have barely changed in the last 60 years or so unless its a new composite thing..

    Good luck!
