How important are book editions?

    you must use the Architects handbook of professional practice version 15 for ARE 5.0, the student version and previous versions don't have the chapters we need. 

    Everything after that, i wouldnt recommend using books that are older then 10 years... People will disagree with me on the code stuff, but often the changes in the IBC are outside the scope of the ARE.

    I only used old versions of materials.  The practice of architecture is very slow to change and 20 year old books have the same content as new ones.  I used a copy of Graphic Standards from 1983.  It was much more attractive than the newer copies I had access to, but the diagrams and numbers were the same!
