Hi Esther -- Congrats on the pass.

When I went through this, I thought PDD was more rigorous than PPD -- many things influence perceptions, however -- PDD was my last exam, and I had myself a bit jacked up...  in any case, you should move forward with confindence having successfully knocked off one of the "big dogs".   In my opinion, if you can pass one of these, you can the pass the other.

Try to shift gears back from PDD and specific details out to the more general systems nature of PPD.  The ASC is actually much better for PPD than PDD -- the systems comparisons are great, and on point for PPD.

    Almost there -- good luck!

Thanks, Kurt, for your response and encouragement!

Your post-exam reviews post for PPD and PDD have been a MASSIVE help for me and I'm sure many people agree with me on this!

Yea, I'm trying to not get too bogged down on details -- I keep finding myself going through Building Construction Illustrated and AGS with a fine tooth comb. Trying to stay on the big picture idea but I keep wondering "oh maybe this detail will appear on the exam... or this detail... or this detail"... and then hours go by and I'm just staring at details again. (... I'm also just a super dork in the sense that AGS has such nice line weights and axon detail drawings that its hard not to stare... haha...)

But yes... must zoom back out with ASC!

You are very welcome -- it sounds to me like you'll knock out your last one like a boss.

I did not transition from 4.0 -- I took all 5.0 exams -- and I've always thought that although the "5 exams" route looks very good on paper, it does have siginificant challenges...  the exams structures are very different, so I think it's a great accomplishment to get throught the transition route.

Good luck on your last exam!

Thank you for this super valuable post Esther! I failed PPD 2 times now and on to taking PDD in a week. I will follow your outline in my count down. I miss standing up and hope to have a normal walking life again soon haha! Thanks again and I wish you the best on your last exam and be DONE DONE : D

    Andrea!

Sorry if this response was a bit late... did you take your exam yet?!

I know that feeling all too well of "this is it! no more studying for ___ exam!".... only find out you have to live with the study materials for a couple more months.... but it WILL end someday! Like what I said in my post, study to "better" yourself as an architect, regardless of the result (although, yes, a pass would be an amazing harvest on all the labor, time, energy, sacrifices spent on preparing for these exams).

I use to think a fail in PPD meant ill probably fail PDD... but it doesn't! so don't let the past discourage you - keep pressing forward, you are becoming better with ever re-take and closer to passing! as long as you don't give up and don't let the obliterate your confidence! you can do it!

    Esther,

I was wondering if you would be able to share your study notes maybe even post them on the ARE Coach forum.

Just wanted to say this was a super encouraging post to read. I am in the same boat with the 4.0 --> 5.0 transition and failed PPD a few weeks ago but am moving forward with my plant to take PDD next Monday. Reading this post gives me hope and provides some comfort and focus. Thank you.

    Stephanie;

So glad I was able to offer you some encouragement and hopefully your test went well! Don't give up! you are so so close and definitely not alone in this whole process!!

I passed PPD on my next go-around ( I haven't gotten to it yet but, I've been meaning to write up a post-exam post) -- all of that to say, these exams are not impossible. Just stay calm, pace yourself, and don't let any exams results define your intelligence or ability as a designer!

Thanks Esther! I Passed!!! Just having those few extra weeks studying for PDD really boosted my confidence. I felt like I knew the material much better and felt much more prepared for ARE 5.0 after sitting for that first one.

I hope to continue to follow in your footsteps on PPD round 2 :)
