    Jon,

I guess I would say to you that you should go into the tests knowing in general what each Use Group.  Know what a B is and what types of spaces it might cover.  Same thing with maybe the A uses, you might want to look at each one and know a bit what A-2 is vs. A-3.  Read up a little bit here and I think it will help.  Total memorization?  No.

This being said, to answer your question, no I never encountered that.  I always had access to Chapter 3 if a question asked to use 508.4 to determine a fire rating.

thanks. pretty sure i had a sub category determination for occupancy without access to chapter 3.
i’m back in for another go round.
apparently no matter how many crashes or black screens or corrupted answers or long lags you get if you get to the end they count it as a valid exam. just so folks don’t waste their time on this...

I took PDD today and failed. I had several issues with the program and contacted NCARB.  Guess I wasted my time.....

    shawn,
start a thread so we can walk through it with you. one of the worst aspects IMHO is trying to work through what should otherwise be a pretty clear on your own...
    it’s not you.

Good luck with NCARB. They accept no responsibility. I had almost the EXACT same problem. Told them “no access to chapter 3 when a section of chapter 4 referenced it.” I got “you had what you needed”.
