Good morning friends
Took PCM yesterday and got the preliminary pass, which now puts me half way to the finish line. This was my third exam after CE and PJM. This test was the trickiest for me, but I think that was only the case because I spent the least amount of time studying for this one.
What I studied-
First off, I spent only a few hours studying financials(AHPP chap 7). My takeaway was that firms have labor they can bill to projects and unbillable labor+profit that needs to be made up from the hours we bill to the projects(this is how multipliers are created). Understand what is billable and non-billable(admin, marketing, so on..) Understanding overhead, utilization, and balance sheets is a very important tool to gauge the financial health of your firm.
Be VERY familiar with delivery methods. Advantages/disadvantages for not only us, but also owners and GC's. Its important to be able to put ourselves into their shoes.
Contracts. Hardin lecture will take care of this knowledge.
Labor laws, insurance, ethics( Some of it is common sense, but I would highly reccomend reading the NCARB and AIA ethics rules of conduct. Seriously there is some great stuff in here its an easy read and something may pop up that you may recall
Went in with a good nights sleep and a good breakfast. My strategy was the same as the previous exams. Start from one and work all the way to question 80 skipping any calculation or "research" type questions (flagging them along the way.)
Second pass I complete every question keeping the flag on anything I would want to come back and check after if im not 100%
Third pass give a final answer to the few I wanted to look over and clock out.
I didnt have any time issues I clocked out with an hour remaining. Ive left about 4 hours on the table in my first 3 tests. Heeyy NCARB any chance I can roll hours over into PA PPD and PDD :) ??
On to PA in 4 weeks. Good luck !
