    Cynthia,

My personal opinion is that you definitely should purchase new 5.0 materials.  I would say that the majority of the questions on the ARE 5.0, particularly with respect to code, deal more with commercial projects.  None of the case studies I had on my 5.0 test dealt with a residential project either.

I will disagree with David here.  I used 3.1 materials to study for PA and they were enough.  The 2012 code was in effect for the 4.0 exams and that hasn't changed moving to 5.0.  The exams didn't change because of changes to the practice of architecture.  The resources are largely the same.

That said, make sure you have access to primary source materials like Fundamentals of Building Design, Building Construction Illustrated, and the Architect's Studio Companion.  These will take you farther than 3rd party sources.

You have all been so helpful! I do have all the suggested study materials. I'll take the PPP. I really appreciate all your advice!
